I came across this cool cozy cabin nestled on a lake somewhere in the countryside of Scotland and was completely smitten. Love at first sight. Coming from a line of Scottish ancestors, of course, I just had to share it! This young couple manages to blend a vintage cabin vibe with several mid-century modern touches that, well, just works - without feeling kitschy or losing that wonderful rustic cabin feel we all love so much.
From scattered worn vintage rugs over flagstone tiles to antique side tables, exposed logs and stacked firewood, this living room oozes that traditional log home aesthetic. Warm yet vibrant colors in the oversized velvet covered furniture invites warmth into the room while not detracting from the gorgeous view outside the large almost floor-to-ceiling windows. Nothing says Scottish better than plaid and the toss pillow in the corner says it all. Bring in the piping hot tea or wine snifter, please.
A simple room with loads of take aways - Canoe over huge picture windows, mismatched rugs, oversized paper lantern above a barnboard dining table, farm chairs, and (most definitely not to be missed) a hammock. Another great idea is the swivel barrel chair which can switch between early morning lake views or late afternoon/evening fireplace views. Also what is discreetly out of view - a pulldown movie screen and projector up in the rafters.
A four-leaf clover wall panel by Alexander Girard reminds the couple of their good fortune in finding this cabin, not mention adding a fun shot of green that mirrors the 19th century Swedish green cabinet opposite.
The bedrooms are small yet feel larger with plenty of light bringing in more beautiful views along with equal parts rustic charm. It's all in the mix of details.
Here above, they've hung a woven wicker lampshade pendant over an antique metal bed frame juxtaposed in a folksy woven blanket. Just our kinda fun! It feels relaxing plus playfully nostalgic.
Above: Hudson Bay blanket and Nordic sheepskin rugs cozy up this bedroom with spectacular views of the water.
The couple work together on the branding of Honest Farming, Their new initiative to make Honest Burgers, his popularly expanding UK restaurant, more sustainable. To quote:
This has involved a complete overhaul of the supply chain, which means they now source beef from a collective of regenerative local farmers, whose farming practices are equally beneficial to the environment. ‘It came about because I felt uncomfortable that we’d built a business around quality beef, but I still didn’t know enough about our supply chain,’ he explains.
